The Client

A&G, Astronomy & Geophysics is a magazine, which is produced by the Royal Astronomical Society, it is produced every two months and mailed to all Fellows of the Society as well as to a few subscribers.

The magazine covers Society news and science news, a main objective of the magazine is to allow interested readers to explore and be informed of other Fellows efforts and insights/discoveries in the field. There needed to be a synergy between the magazine and the aandg.org website. The new site is in place to further the aims of the Society by encouraging Fellows to publicise their work on the new website.

The Problem

The submission of articles needed to be straightforward, but importantly, the process needed to be comprehensive and accommodating, with as much automation as possible.

Before an article is published to the website, the administrator needed to be able to check copy, add tags to the submitted images as well as renaming them. Latest articles submitted needed to be displayed on the homepage in categories and the user needed to use tags to jump to related articles.

The site needed to store all content online and the administrator needed to easily find previously used images using a keyword search facility.

The Solution

The new aandg.org website is a sophisticated on-line resource, which aims to celebrates the outreach and educational work of RAS Fellows worldwide.

The website benefits from a custom built template/theme and a custom built Joomla extension to handle the submission and archiving of images.

The user experience is clean and well considered and the look of the website is current and in keeping with the brand guidelines provided by the Society. Contributions can be made to the main website following a registration and approval process.
